New Haven, CT - The women's tennis team kicked off the season with a strong showing at the Yale Fall Invitational. The Bulldogs have added five new freshmen to an already stellar roster that includes returning standouts such as Rashmee Patil '07.
The Bulldogs dominated over the category A women's doubles. Christine Cutter '09 and Ashley Miles '09 received a bye to advance to the quarterfinals. The number four seeded team of Aimee Kim '07 and Janet Kim '09 teamed up to win their match 8-4. Olivia Nix '07 and Patil were also victorious, going 9-8 (7-3).
Yale creamed the competition in the category A women's singles. Miles won in straight sets against Meg Zebroski of Dartmouth. Miles easily defeated Zebroski, 6-2, 6-2. Christina Cutter '09 battled with Catherine Zawadski of Syracuse. Cutter won the first match 7-5, Zadwadski countered by claiming the second match 1-6, and Cutter finally triumphed in the third match with a score of 10-7. J. Kim defeated number three seeded Victoria Vainberg of Syracuse in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5. Number two seeded Patil received a bye to the quarterfinals.
In the category B women's singles, Lilian Nguyen '09 received a bye to the quarterfinals. A Kim won in the last two sets against Ashley Lipton of Syracuse, 4-6, 6-4, 10-1. Nix easily defeated Sandy Wijeratne of SBU 6-1, 6-2.In the category C women's singles, Grygierowska was defeated by Carolina Huignard of Syracuse, 6-0, 6-3. Catherine Starr '08 defeated Danielle Rodriguez of Quinnipiac in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
The Bulldogs continue play in New Haven on Saturday, September 17.
