Houston - Rashmee Patil and Olivia Nix advanced to the semifinals of their respective singles brackets to lead the Yale women's tennis team on Day 1 of the Rice Tennis Classic. Also still alive for bracket championships are the doubles teams of Patil and Aimee Kim and Reshmi Srinath and Juliette Vartikar.
Patil posted a 6-1, 6-4 win against a TCU player in the first round of the Gray Singles flight, then knocked off Northwestern's Jamie Peisel in three sets, 2-6, 6-0, 6-4. She will face Peisel's Wildcat teammate Andrea Yung on Saturday.
Playing in the White Singles bracket, Nix ousted Maria Braniecka of SMU, 6-1, 6-2 in the quarters and will face Rice's Dominique Karas for a chance to play in the final.
In doubles, Patil and Kim posted an 8-2 win against a pair of Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners and will face a Northwestern team in Saturday's quarterfinals. Srinath and Vartikar also ousted a UTSA pair and will face a TCU squad next.
