Houston - Olivia Nix beat Rice's Dominique Karas 7-6, 6-4 to advance to the championship of the White singles bracket at the Rice Tennis Classic Saturday. She will face Northwestern's Kristi Roemer. Yale also has two teams alive in the Gray doubles bracket, as Reshmi Srinath and Juliette Vartikar topped a team from TCU 8-4 and Christina Alford and Lindsey Dashiell topped a team from Lee 9-8 (7-1) to advance. They will play each other for the championship Sunday.
The doubles team of Rashmee Patil and Aimee Kim fell just short in the Blue flight, winning 8-2 over a team from Northwestern in the quarterfinals but losing 8-4 to another team from Northwestern in the semifinals. In the Blue consolation bracket, Nix and Stephanie White lost to a team from Northwestern 8-6, then toppped a team from Lee 8-7.
In Blue singles, Srinath fell to SMU's Svetlana Kouzmenko 6-1, 6-3 in the winnners' bracket and will now face BU's Zuzana Krchnakova. Alford defeated Lee's Taylor Hall 6-0, 6-0 in the consolation bracket and will now face Lee's Loli Aguirre-Gomez.
While Nix won her match in White singles, Dashiell fell to SMU's Maria Braniecka 6-0, 6-1 in the winners bracket and will now face Rice's Amy Cao. In the White consolation bracket, Catherine Starr beat Lee's Nicole Garcia 6-3, 6-3 and now faces UTSA's Massiel Martinez.
