Women's Tennis at the Rice Classic, Day Two

Karlyn and Ashley Martin advanced to the A doubles finals while Reshmi Srinath and Rashmee Patil moved into the C singles finals as the Elis completed the second day of the Rice Tennis Classic in Houston, Texas.

The Martins will play in the doubles finals tomorrow after defeating Miranda Foley and Bijana Dimovka from Houston. Meanwhile, Srinath and Patil each won two matches on the day and will play for the White Singles championship tomorrow.

After defeating Texas-San Antonio's Massiel Martinez, 6-1, 6-2, Srinath moved on to beat Rice's Annie Goodrich by a 6-2, 6-1 score. Meanwhile, Patil beat Christina Shelly from Lee, 6-0, 6-2, before defeating teammate Aimee Kim in a 6-3, 6-2 match. Kim had advanced to the third round on the strength of a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Melissa Back from Rice.

After winning the team's only three set match yesterday, Stephanie White found herself in a similarly intense match today in the Gray singles flight but was unable to win again. She lost to Rice's Karen Chao in a tough 3-6, 6-1, 7-6(5) match before defeating LSU's Lauren Seaman 6-3, 6-2 in a consolation battle.

In the Blue singles bracket, Karlyn Martin and Christine Alford both fell today, while Ashley Martin lost in her Gray singles game.
