Kim, Rhee to Meet in Finals of Cissie Leary Invitational

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Bulldogs concluded a successful day two at the Cissie Leary Invitational at the University of Pennsylvania Saturday. Senior Janet Kim and junior Jessica Rhee will face off in the finals of the Blue Bracket singles draw Sunday.

No. 1 seed Kim, the defending champion of the tournament, won her quarterfinals and semifinals matches in convincing fashion with two straight set victories. Kim rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win in the quarterfinals before reaching the finals with a 6-0, 6-0 win.

Rhee took care of the No. 4 seed in the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-2 win before advancing to the finals after her opponent withdrew. After her opponent withdrew, Rhee played an additional match and won 7-5, 3-6, 10-4.

In the backdraw of the Blue Bracket singles draw, two more Yale teammates will meet in the finals as sophomore Lauren Ritz and sophomore Lindsay Clark will face off Sunday. Ritz defeated her first opponent 6-2, 6-2 in the backdraw before advancing to the finals after her semifinals opponent withdrew. Clark advanced to the finals with a 6-0, 6-4 win in the quarterfinals followed by a 6-0, 6-3 win in the semifinals.

In the Red Bracket singles draw, freshman Vicky Brook advanced to the finals with two victories Saturday. Brook pulled out a 3-6, 6-3, 10-3 win in the quarterfinals before cruising to a 6-3, 6-1 win in the semifinals to advance to the finals in her first tournament playing for Yale.

Sophomore Stevi Petrelli advanced to the semifinals of the Red Bracket singles draw with a 6-3, 6-4 win before losing 6-2, 6-3.

Junior Sarah Lederhandler, advanced to the finals in the backdraw of the Red Bracket singles draw with two straight set wins Saturday. Lederhandler rolled to a 6-4, 6-0 win in the quarterfinals before taking care of business in the semifinals 6-4, 6-4.

In the white bracket singles draw, senior captain Lilian Nguyen advanced to the semifinals with a 6-3, 6-4 win before losing 6-3, 6-3.

Yale continued its doubles success as well. In the Blue Bracket doubles draw, the team of Kim and Clark advanced to the finals with an 8-1 win in the semifinals. Petrelli and Brook dropped their semifinal match 8-5 to the No. 2 seed.

In the backdraw of the Blue Bracket doubles draw, Nguyen and Ritz advanced to the finals with an 8-5 win.

Rhee and Lederhandler won the Red Bracket doubles draw with an 8-4 win in the finals.

The Bulldogs will be back in action Sunday in six different finals matches, including two matches where two members of the team will face off against each other.
