NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Bulldogs completed day one at the Yale Invitational Friday. Freshman Vicky Brook advanced to the semifinals of the blue singles draw with two victories.
Brook defeated Christina Tan of Syracuse 6-2, 6-4 in her first match to advance to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Brook defeated Penn State's Maria Prishlyak 6-1, 6-1 to advance to the semifinals. Brook will face Boston Uniersity's Sefanie Nunic Saturday.
Both sophomore Lindsay Clark and sophomore Stevi Petrelli advanced to the semifinals of the white singles draw. Clark defeated Syracuse's Ashley Spicer 7-5, 6-1 and then cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Dorothy Dohanics. She will face Boston University's Cori Lefkowith Saturday.
Petrelli defeated Penn State's Lauren McCarthy 6-3, 6-3 and then rolled to a 6-3, 6-4 win over Boston University's Vanessa Steiner. Petrelli will play Penn State's Denisa Zobeideh Saturday.
In the silver singles draw, senior Lilian Nguyen and junior Sarah Lederhandler both advanced to the semifinals. Nguyen won 6-1, 6-1 over Victoria Ford of Syracuse before pulling out a 2-6, 7-5, 10-2 win over Penn State's Kristin Roth. Nguyen will face Leyla Morzan of Penn State Saturday.
Lederhandler cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Penn State's Michaela Stracar. She then defeated Boston University's Yana Sadovskaya 6-4, 6-2. Lederhandler will play Boston University's Liz Corrao Saturday.
