NEW HAVEN, Conn.--Incoming freshmen Stevi Petrelli (Harrison, N.Y.) and Lindsay Clark (Bernardsville, N.J.) both posted top-four doubles finishes in recently completed prestigious summer tournaments. Petrelli teamed with Harvard's Lena Litvak to win the Dartmouth ITA Summer Tournament, while Clark and Shinann Featherston finished fourth at the USTA Girls' 18 National Clay Court Championships.
Petrelli and Litvak were the top-seeded team in the tournament. After receiving a bye in the first round, they breezed through their first two matches. In the final, they knocked off Illinois' Shivani Dave and Lauren McCarthy of Penn State by an 8-6 score. Petrelli also reached the semifinals in the singles draw at Dartmouth, where she lost to Litvak.
At the USTA Girls' 18 National Clay Court Championships in Memphis, Tenn., Clark and Featherston were the No. 2 seed in the 94-team field. They received a bye in the first round and didn't drop a set until the quarterfinals. After surviving 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 against fifth-seeded Lyndsay Kinstler and Maria Sanchez, Clark and Featherston were upended by Stefanie Nunic and Chelsea Pregg in the semifinals. In the bronze medal match, they fell to Nicole Bartnik and Cassandra Herzberg 6-1, 6-4. Clark and Featherston played in the 2006 U.S. Open junior doubles tournament.
Petrelli was ranked No. 1 in the East in the Girls' 14s and 16s before finishing last year ranked No. 5 in the 18s. Clark is ranked No. 57 in singles and No. 2 in doubles. Playing together, they reached the doubles final of the National Open.
