Getting to Know Sarah Lederhanlder, SM'10

Sept. 30, 2007

On when she started playing tennis...
I started playing tennis when I was about 5 or 6. I took lessons once a week with the nicest man, Tom. I played with a little pee wee wilson racket. Besides my weekly lessons, I used to hit balls against my garage after school.

On her college recruitment process...
This process was not too bad when I look back on it. I really enjoyed taking all my recruiting visits (Dartmouth, Princeton, Columbia, and Yale). When I was applying, the head coach position was not even filled yet, this was sort of risky, but I cannot imagine being at any other school!

On her favorite part of the tennis program...
The program here is more intense than I expected. But that is really what I like about it. We work our butts off every day, even twice a day! I am so glad I am part of a program that is really dedicated to making us the best players we can be. I like working hard and knowing that it will all pay off in the end.

On her pre-match routine...
My pre-match routine really varies depending on how much time I have before a match. I usually need to get myself pumped up by either listening to music on my ipod or jumping around a little bit and stretching.

On living in Silliman College...
Besides having a beautiful and amazing courtyard, my favorite thing is finally having our own dining hall.

On handling the move from Miami to New Haven...
Definitely the weather change was the hardest part. I learned a lot about winter clothing and how to layer appropriately.

On her favorite tennis player...
Roger Federer is absolutely amazing on the court and he is also a genuine person off court.
