Honor Comes After Dominant Performance in First Meet
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Kate Grace was named Hepstrack.com's female athlete of the week after shattering the fields in both the 800-meter run and the 1,000-meter run on Saturday at the Lidlifter Invitational at Coxe Cage. This is the first season that Hepstrack.com has selected athletes for the honor, making Grace an inaugural honoree, along with Brynn Smith of Brown University, with whom she shares the award.
Grace claimed the 1,000-meter run in 2:55.53 on Saturday. Her closest competitor, Christine Cristobal from Manhattan College, finished in 3:14.44, almost twenty seconds after. Less than an hour later, Grace also won the 800-meter run by a significant margin. She finished in 2:14.99, almost four seconds ahead of Marist College's Jackie Gamboli (2:18.61). Grace ended her day by joining the rest of Yale's 4x400-meter relay team in a second place finish. The Bulldogs (3:54.09) were edged by Manhattan College in 3:50.41.
Grace and her teammates will have more than a month before their next competition. They will take to the track again when Yale hosts the College Invitational on Jan. 15 at Coxe Cage. More information about other Hepstrack.com Athletes of the Week can be found here.
