All-American to Compete in the Mile

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – This weekend, All-American senior Kate Grace will travel to College Station, Texas, to race in the NCAA Division I Championship, hosted by Texas A&M University. She will compete against 15 other athletes for a national title in the one mile run. Grace qualified for the meet in both the one mile run and the 800-meter run but will only contest the mile. The meet will conclude her final indoor track season as a Yale Bulldog.

"We're excited about it. She's run at this track before with success," said Mark Young '68, Grace's coach. "It's a big deal; we've only had one other person in the history of the program make the indoor nationals in the mile, and that was Lindsay Donaldson '08 in 2006."

This weekend marks Grace's second trip to the indoor NCAA Championship and her fifth career appearance at a national championship, including three outdoor championships. This year is the first time that she will compete in an event other than the 800-meter run. She is a two-time All-American in that race, earning the honor first in her sophomore year indoors (8th- 2:07.77), and second in her junior year outdoors (7th- 2:05.92).

Grace currently holds the Yale record in both the one mile run and the 800-meter run indoors, as well as top-10 times in the 400-meter dash, the 500-meter dash, the 1,000-meter run, the 4x400 meter relay, the 4x800 meter relay, and the distance medley relay.

The preliminary heats of the one mile run will begin at 4:00 p.m. central time on Friday (5:00 p.m. eastern time), with live results available here throughout the weekend. The championship website and a live online feed of the race are available here.
