Bulldogs Chosen as an All-Academic Team
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) named its All-Academic teams this Thursday and the Bulldogs were recognized as one of 164 teams nationwide for their academic success. Squads needed at least a 3.00 cumulative GPA to qualify and Yale was well above the mark, coming in with a 3.46.
Last week, Yale's top academic performers were recognized as individual All-Academic team members. Sophomores Annelies Gamble, Nihal Kayali, and Elizabeth Marvin were the three Bulldogs selected to the team. To qualify, athletes needed at least a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and met one of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
This year, the team finished ninth at indoor ECACs and 12th at outdoor ECACs. Later in the season, four athletes qualified to participate in the outdoor NCAA First Round competition. Gamble competed in the 800-meter run, Kayali in the 1,500-meter run, and Marvin in the 5,000-meter run. Additionally, Kate Grace '11 qualified for the NCAA National Championships in both the indoor and outdoor seasons. She finished 13th in the one mile run during the indoor meet and fifth in the 800-meter run during the outdoor meet.
