More Season-Bests for Bulldogs
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - When the first day of competition at the Giegengack Invitational wrapped up on Friday, several Bulldogs had performances to be proud of. Though the meet was unscored, it offered a chance for a tune-up just before the season gets into the headier HYP and Heps meets, both later this month. Two Yale athletes paced the team with second-place performances and season-bests on Friday.
Freshman Emily Cable raced to second place of 32 athletes in the 200-meter dash. She lowered her best time to 25.33, previously set at 25.49 last weekend at the Terrier Invitational. Junior Adele Jackson-Gibson, competing for the first time this season, won her heat and finished in sixth place overall with a time of 25.98. Senior Bulldogs swept places eight through ten: Emily Shulan was eighth in 26.23, Alexa Monti was ninth in 26.26 and Marieme Mbaye was 10th in 26.31. Freshman Ashleigh Delemos was 12th in 26.43. Junior Dakota McCoy was 26th in 28.09 and sophomore Anna McCahon, also in her first meet of the season, was 27th in 28.22.
Though she only began competing in the long jump this year, sophomore Amanda Snajder was second in the long jump on Friday. She turned in a distance of 5.26m (17'3.25"), just three inches off first place and almost a full meter better than her first attempt at the event last weekend. Freshman Elle Brunsdale was fourth of 18 athletes with a leap of 5.17m (16'11.5") and freshman Alisha Jordan was 10th at 5.03m (16'6").
The 5,000-meter run was also dominated by Yale singlets. Senior Jennifer Downing finished third in 18:00.73, followed by junior Jennifer Donnelly in fourth in 18:02.85. Freshman Hannah Alpert was sixth in 18:38.44.
Finally, after their one week hiatus from competition, the Bulldog throwers were back in action at the Giegengack Invitational. Junior Antonia Renker and freshman Korbin Richards were ninth and 10th, respectively, in the weight throw (12.44m and 10.91m).
Competition will resume tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m.
