Bulldogs Come Back Strong in Two Day Meet
RALEIGH, N.C. - After dominating in the 1,500-meter run on Friday in the Raleigh Relays, juniors Annelies Gamble and Nihal Kayali came back to run impressive times in the 800-meter run on Saturday. Gamble claimed eighth of 25 athletes, finishing in 2:09.93, while Kayali posted a time of 2:11.50, a collegiate best, to finish in 12th place.
Gamble is a 2011 NCAA Northeast Regional qualifier in the 800-meter run, and she seems well on her way to making an even greater impact at the distance this season. In 2011, she only ran faster than 2:10 at the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships and raced in the 2:15 range last March. Her 2:09.93 this early in 2012 signals that she is poised to have a break-through season.
Kayali is also off to the best start of an outdoor season in her career after her two races this weekend. She didn't reach a time of sub-4:25 until the finals of the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships in 2011, yet she has already run 4:24.11 this season. Her 2:11.50 is a collegiate best, which she reached in her first 800-meter run of the season.
Their teammates competed in the UConn Spring Invitational on Saturday. The whole team will be back in action together at Princeton's Sam Howell Invitational on Apr. 6-7.
