Rue Runs a Personal Record in the 400m

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Yale women's track and field team closed out the Sam Howell Invitational on a high note on Saturday, as the Bulldogs turned in many personal and season bests across the board. The team took on top-notch competition, including several professional club track teams and much of the Ivy League, which pushed it to new heights.

Saturday's events were highlighted by a second-place finish in the 4x100-meter relay. The team of freshman Emily Cable, junior Adele Jackson-Gibson, senior Alexa Monti and senior Emily Shulan won their heat in 47.76, which was good for second overall. The team finished only behind the Princeton squad, which broke the meet record by 0.03 seconds in 46.86. 

Each of these Bulldogs went on to compete in other events. Jackson-Gibson took 14th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.49, her fastest time of the season so far. She won her heat by almost half a second. Senior Marieme Mbaye was 27th in the event, finishing in 26.36. Monti was 15th in the 100-meter dash; she won her heat in 12.65. Mbaye tied for 17th in 12.68 and Shulan was 32nd in 13.31. 

Cable went on to compete in the 400-meter hurdles. She was a team-high sixth in 1:03.64. Junior Jenna Poggi was 10th in 1:05.29 and junior Dakota McCoy was 13th in 1:05.49. 

Junior Allison Rue turned in another impressive performance in the 400-meter dash. She raced to a personal best of 56.74, just 0.01 seconds off of ninth place. Sophomore Jenna Hessert also competed, finishing in 34th place in 1:01.29. 

Two field athletes also had top-10 results on Saturday. Freshman Elle Brunsdale was eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 10.42m (34'2.25"). Sophomore Emily Urciuoli was sixth in the pole vault after clearing 3.65m (11'11.75"). Freshman Catherine Shih was 11th with a jump of 3.35m (10'11.75"). 

In the 100-meter hurdles, sophomore Amanda Snajder was able to place 13th overall in 15.42 and freshman Ashleigh Delemos was 21st in 16.01.

Senior captain Gabriella Kelly competed in the 800-meter run, finishing 22nd of 38 athletes in 2:20.38.

Four athletes competed in the distance events on Saturday. Freshman Alyssa LaGuardia was 14th in the 1,500-meter run in 4:58.58, followed by freshman Anna Demaree in 16th (4:59.61). Additionally, freshman Hannah Alpert finished 13th in the 3,000-meter run in 10:41.85. Sophomore Rachel O'Driscoll was 16th in 11:03.32.

The Bulldogs will compete at Harvard next weekend in the annual dual meet.
