Bulldogs to Compete in Historic Meet

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Members of the Yale women's track and field team will venture to Philadelphia this week to compete in the 2012 Penn Relays. The relay carnival will showcase college talent from across the country, and will also include field events, as well as professional and high school heats. Yale will send 14 representatives to wear the Bulldog jersey on Thursday and Friday. Additionally, Yale will host the Springtime Invitational at the Cuyler Athletic Complex and Dwyer Track on Sunday.

Yale will compete in three relay events, the traditional 4x100-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay, as well as the 4x1,500-meter relay. Freshman standout Emily Cable, junior Adele Jackson-Gibson, senior Alexa Monti and senior Emily Shulan will compete in the 4x100-meter relay. Cable and Monti will join juniors Jenna Poggi and Allison Rue on a 4x400-meter relay team. Sophomore Sarah Barry, sophomore Liana Epstein, junior Annelies Gamble and junior Nihal Kayali will each run slightly less than a mile in the 4x1,500-meter relay.

Additionally, freshman Kira Garry will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, sophomore Melissa Chapman will compete in the 3,000-meter run and senior Lindsey Raymond will race in the 5,000-meter run. Yale's field cohort will consist of Jackson-Gibson in the long jump and sophomore Emily Urciuoli in the pole vault.

A full meet schedule is available at All of Yale's events will take place on Thursday with the exception of the 4x1,500-meter relay Championship of America (1:30 p.m. on Friday). Urciuoli will compete in the pole vault at 10:00 a.m, heats of the 4x100-meter relay will start at 1:00 p.m., the long jump will begin at 4:00 p.m., the steeplechase at 8:00 p.m., the 3,000-meter run at 8:30 p.m. and Raymond will race in the Olympic Development 5,000-meter run at 9:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Additionally, the Yale Springtime Invitational will begin with field events at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. Track events will start at 11:00 a.m. This smaller meet will give the rest of the team a chance to polish its events before Heps. An order of events is available at
