Track and Field attends Boston University's Terrier Invitational

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – This Friday, January 25, Yale women's track and field will compete in Boston at the Terrier Invitational, hosted by Boston University. The meet will last until Saturday, when the men's team will compete. According to senior captain Allison Rue, the track at Boston University's Track and Tennis Center is a particularly fast one, meaning the meet will be an excellent opportunity for the team to continue churning out notable times. In addition, the Bulldogs will have the chance to test their skills against some worthwhile competition, including opponents from Ivy League schools Cornell and Dartmouth.

The meet comes after an impressive showing by the Bulldogs at their first scoring event of the season last week, a tri-meet with Dartmouth and Columbia. Freshman Karleh Wilson broke the school record for shot put, trailed closely by fellow freshman Taylor Eldridge, who returned to competing after recovering from injury.

Among the team's four first place finishers last week were freshman Emily Stark in the 3,000-meter run and junior Emily Urciuoli in the pole vault. These athletes, along with distance runner Anna Demaree and sophomore Alisha Jordan—competing in the long and triple jump—will be ones to watch this week.

Furthermore, the team will meet high expectations in the short sprints in Boston, as freshmen Sydney Cureton and Mackenzie Mathews both finished second last week, in the 60-meter dash and 60-meter hurdles, respectively. Meanwhile, freshman Shannon McDonnell, a competitor in the 800-meter run, and sophomore Emily Cable, a contender in the 400-meter dash, both achieved first place finishes. With such a promising start to the scored season, the Bulldogs seem to be in for a prosperous year.

The meet will begin with the 400-meter dash at 2:00 p.m. A complete schedule of events is available at http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/bost/sports/m-track/auto_pdf/2012-13/misc_non_event/2013TerrierInvSchedule.pdf.
