Throwing Squad Competes in the Hammer Throw

NEW HAVEN, Conn.—This Friday, ten Bulldogs competed in the second day of the 2014 Shamrock Invitational, hosted by Coastal Carolina in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

In the 100-meter hurdles, senior captain Amanda Snajder took away a personal best time of 15.20 (11th place). Sophomore Mackenzie Mathews placed 13th in 15.21, while junior Elle Brunsdale was 24th (16.52).

Freshman Meredith Rizzo entered in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, a new event for the outdoor season. She claimed fifth place in a field of 23 (11:09.04), an impressive feat for her first collegiate performance in the event.

All three members of Yale's throwing squad had the chance to compete in the hammer throw for the first time this year, as it was not offered during the indoor season. Sophomore Karleh Wilson's mark of 44.61m (146-04) was a new personal best, earning her 10th place. Freshman Kate Simon placed 14th, meeting a distance of 42.54m (139-07). Sophomore Taylor Eldridge rounded out the trio with her mark of 39.85m (130-09—22nd).

Snajder's second event of the day was the high jump. Both her and sophomore Megan Toon reached a height of 1.55m. Ranking is determined by the number of attempts made, allowing Toon to place 11th, while Snajder was 13th. Two team members also took on the pole vault. Senior Emily Urciuoli landed one of the day's best finishes. She took fifth with a mark 3.50m (11-05.75), while sophomore Renee Vogel was 13th (3.20m or 10-06.00).

The met will continue on Saturday. Live results are available here.
