NEW HAVEN, Conn.—The athletes who have qualified to compete in the 2014 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Preliminary Championships competition were announced this Thursday. Two Bulldogs—newly-elected captain junior Kira Garry and sophomore Emily Stark—made the cut.
In order to be eligible for the meet, the duo had to rank among the top 48 East region competitors in their respective events. Garry' school-record time of 10:21.01 currently ranks her at No. 29, while Stark's personal best in the 10,000-meter run of 34:51.61 ranks her at No. 46.
The two will travel to Jacksonville, Fla. to compete in the preliminary round of competition, where they will have the chance to qualify to advance to the finals in Eugene, Ore. Stark will compete on Thursday, May 29, followed by Garry on Friday. Due to the length of their events, both runners will only compete in one preliminary round.
