NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's track and field hosted the Yale Collegiate Invitational this past Saturday afternoon, the team's first meet of the year. Local competitors from all across the northeast competed at Coxe Cage, including Marist College, Sacred Heart University and the University of New Haven, amongst others. Though the Bulldogs only had a small contingent of athletes compete, the team still had some solid performances.
Senior captain Kate Simon won the weight throw for the Bulldogs, throwing for a distance of 16.27m (53-04.50). Though not her personal best, Simon outshined the other 13 throwers, winning by almost a foot. In the high jump, freshmen Olivia Mooney and Elizabeth Adelson both cleared the winning height of 1.60m (5-03), though they came in third and fourth place, respectively. Senior Lillian Foote cleared 1.55m (4-11), taking sixth.
Meanwhile, junior Calleigh Higgins was the only runner to represent the Bulldogs this weekend, placing third in the mile run with a time of 5:13.65.
Next up, the Bulldogs will compete in the Yale-Dartmouth-Columbia tri-meet this coming Friday in New York. Presumably, most of the team will make their debuts this week. More information will be posted about the meet as the date nears.
