NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- To kick off the 2019 outdoor season for the Yale Track and Field team, a group of seven Bulldogs will head to warmer weather to race in multiple sprint and distance events at the Raleigh Relays in North Carolina this weekend.

Among those traveling is first-year phenom Jocelyn Chau, who will be competing in the 1500 meters on Friday. During the indoor season Chau focused on the 1,000 meters, where she finished fourth at the Indoor Ivy League Championships, but her talent stretches to middle and longer distances as well. The Toronto native capped off her first indoor season at Yale winning the mile at the ECAC Championships with a blazing time of 4:49.54. Up against some of the fastest runners on the east coast, Chau will look to build off her indoor races and put up a fast mark early in the outdoor season.

In the shorter events, hurdler Addison Coy and school-record holder Lillian Enes will be competing in two events each. Coy will focus on the 400 meters and the 400 meter hurdles while Enes is set to race in the 100 and 200 meters. Last year's Ivy League Champion in the 400 meter-hurdles, Coy focused mainly on the 500 meters indoors, so her races this weekend will be important in setting the tone for her upcoming season. For Enes, this weekend will be a great chance to race in some of the shorter events before she begins to focus on the 400 meters later in the season. Also racing for the Elis on Friday are Kayley DeLay, Andrea Masterson and Jane Miller.

DeLay will compete in the 3,000 meter steeplechase after improving upon her previous 3,000 meter personal record by 10 seconds during this indoor season. Masterson, who is a two-time qualifier for NCAA Regionals in the 10,000 meters, will be racing for a third bid to the Northeast Regional meet this May. Her current personal best of 34:22 places her fourth all-time for Yale in the event. Miller will also be racing the 10,000 meters and rounding out competition for the Bulldogs on Friday.

On Saturday, mid-distance specialist Samantha Friborg will race in the 800 meters after finishing fifth in the event at the Ivy League Championships indoors. In a competitive field, Friborg will be up against some of the same top Ivy League runners she faced this winter.

Hosted by North Carolina State, the Raleigh Relays has been a staple on the Yale schedule for the recent past outdoor seasons.
