Since beginning in 2004-2005, Mahon hashad athletes break five records (women's indoor shot, women's disc,men's discus, men's outdoor and indoor shot; the shot records wereset in 1950 by Jim Fuchs and broken in 2007 by John Langhauser). She has also had numerous athletes qualify for the NCAARegional and National Championships.
Mahon was the 2002 U.S. Indoor and OutdoorChampion with a throw of 23.56 meters in the 20-pound weight and72.01 meters in the hammer. She broke the American record in thehammer three times in 2002 and held the record until the spring of2004, when it was broken by Erin Gilreath with a throw of 72.12meters. Norgren Mahon has been a member of two World ChampionshipsTeams (2001, 2003), placing seventh in the Paris WorldChampionships in 2003. She was also a member of the 2004 U.S.Olympic Team in Athens. She has been ranked in the top 12 in theworld in the women's hammer for several years, with a high rankingof fifth in 2002. She is a 1996 graduate of the University ofVermont, where she competed in the hammer throw.
Outside of Yale, she has worked as a full timeEnglish teacher since 1997, and is now the English DepartmentChairperson at Amity High School in Woodbridge, Conn. She andher husband have two children: Grace and Lance.
