Steve Mucchetti enters his first season as a volunteer assistant
coach at Yale. He will work primarily with the men's middle and
long-distance runners during the track season, and also with the
men's cross country team. A 2006 graduate of Dartmouth College,
Mucchetti captained Dartmouth's cross country team to an Ivy League
championship in 2005, and helped the Big Green place 15th at the
NCAA Championship meet later that season. Mucchetti also competed
for Dartmouth during the 2006 cross country season, after the Ivy
League granted him a medical hardship waiver for an injury he
sustained in the Fall of 2002. While finishing work towards a
degree in psychology, Mucchetti made the most of his final season
of collegiate eligibility. He placed 4th at the Ivy League
Championships -- a career best. On the track, Mucchetti was
Dartmouth's fastest 3,000-meter runner during 2005 and 2006; his
best mark of 8:07.69 ranks him 9th all-time at Dartmouth. Mucchetti
scored points on five occasions at various Ivy League Championship
meets, and ran 14:15.91 for 5,000 meters at the 2006 Penn Relays.
In his final college track race, Mucchetti used a well-timed sprint
to win the 5,000 meters at the 2006 Outdoor New England
Championships. A native of Ridgefield, Conn., Mucchetti was the
Connecticut cross country champion as a high school senior in 2001.
