Woodard and Wygant Win Events as Yale Finishes Third at Heps

Providence, RI - Joslyn Woodard won the 200-meter dash and Lisa Wygant won the high jump on day two as Yale placed third at Heps with a score of 123. Woodard contributed 28 of those points, thanks to wins in the 200-meter dash and the long jump along with a second-place finish in the 100-meter dash. Cornell wound up winning the meet with 157 points.

Woodard ran the seventh-fastest Heps time all-time in winning the 200-meter at 24.31. Cornell had the next two finishers with Johanna Garrity in second at 24.81 and Kari Steed in third with a mark of 24.88. Wygant placed first in the high jump with a height of 5-07. Two Cornell freshmen, Shawna Rossini and Sarah Wilfred, cleared 5-05 to finish second and third.

Woodard placed second in the 100 at 12.06, behind Brown's Lauren Linder (12.03) and ahead of Yale teammate Katrina Castille (12.15). Woodard and Castille were also members of the second-place Bulldog 4x100 squad, along with Candace Arthur and Aisha Cort. The Bulldogs also had second- and third-place finishes in the 800-meter run from Rebecca Dickens at 2:08.54 and Vanessa Mazandi at 2:09.49 respectively. Brown's Naja Ferjan won at 2:07.64.

Ashley Campbell finished second in the 1,500-meter run at 4:29.54, just .01 behind Harvard's Laura Maludzinski. Rebecca Hunter was ninth at 4:41.92. Cara Kiernan was second in the 5,000-meter run at 16:17.03, behind Princeton's Emily Kroshus (16:16.15). Anne Martin had Yale's other second-place finish on the day, finishing the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:43.64) behind Columbia's Deliliah DiCrescenzo (10:35.89).

Yale's 4x800-meter relay team (Dickens, Hunter, Mazandi and Vanessa Everding) came in third at 8:49.96. Katherine Dlesk was fourth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:03.78), and was part of Yale's 4x400-meter relay team (with Arthur, Cort, and Jessica Pall) that finished sixth at 3:51.00.

In the 3,000-meter run, Jaclyn Myers was ninth (10:05.03) and Lauren Davis was 11th (10:20.44). Two Bulldogs finished the 10,000-meter run, with Nadia Sawicki seventh at 35:53.92 and Katherine McKinstry 10th at 37:03.68.

The Heps finishes also determine the All-Ivy team, so Woodard and Wygant both made the First Team. Campbell, Dickens, Kiernan, Lederman, Martin and the 4x100m relay team earned Second Team honors.

Yale's next meet is the ECAC Championships, which the Bulldogs host starting Friday.
