Bulldogs Prepare For Heptagonal Championship

May 3, 2006

The Bulldogs look to build upon last year's fourth-place finish this weekend at the annual Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Track & Field Championship. Competition will take place May 6 and 7 at Penn's Franklin Field.

Yale has a number of athletes looking to make a mark this year both on the track and in the field:

100-meter Dash: Defending champion Joslyn Woodard will be looking for yet another victory. She is currently ranked fourth (12.07), while teammate Katrina Castille is right behind at fifth (12.10).

200-meter Dash: Woodard will also defend her title in the 200. She is currently ranked second in the league (24.48).

1,500-meter Run: Lindsay Donaldson currently leads the league in this event with a time of 4:25.63.

3,000-meter Run: Donaldson won this event last year with a time of 9:49.60 and will be looking to repeat.

5,000-meter Run: Katherine McKinstry was sixth in this event last outdoor season and second indoors earlier this year so she will be trying to surpass that.

400-meter Hurdles: Katherine Dlesk and Jennifer Lin will be looking to score as they are ranked fourth and seventh in this event.

3,000-meter Steeplechase: Fifth in this event last year, Claire Hamilton will attempt to improve upon that. She is currently ranked ninth in the league.

Pole Vault: Defending champion Molly Lederman should once again dominate. Ashley Nolet should score as well since she is ranked fourth.

Long Jump: Woodard won this event last year and will attempt to repeat. She is currently ranked second in the league.

Triple Jump: Dionna Thomas and Olakitan Awolesi are ranked third and eighth. Thomas was second last year, while Awolesi was 11th.

Shot Put: School record-holder Erica Davis is ranked first in the league and has a good chance of winning. Margo Angelopoulos is close behind at sixth.

Discus Throw: Davis should score in this event as well. She is ranked second while Angelopoulos is sixth.

Hammer Throw: Angelopoulos is fifth this season so far and placed seventh last season. Davis is close at eighth.

Relays: The 4x100-meter relay team currently leads the league at 46.71, so they have a good chance to win it. The 4x400-meter relay team is fifth in the event.
