Donaldson Earns Third ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Selection
June 25, 2008
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Yale cross country and track standout Lindsay Donaldson '08 has been named First Team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America. This is the third straight year Donaldson has earned Academic All-America recognition. She was a first team selection last year and a second team selection in 2006.
A history major, Donaldson earned six All-America selections during her remarkable Yale career -- three in cross country and three in three different events in track. She has also been named Academic All-Ivy League five times (fall 2005, fall 2006, spring 2007, fall 2007, spring 2008), and has earned three USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors in the last two years.
Donaldson concluded her Yale career by placing 19th in the 5,000-meter run at the NCAA Championships earlier this month. That was her fourth NCAA appearance in that event, highlighted by a sixth-place finish her freshman year that earned her All-America status. She earned a pair of All-America honors in indoor track, finishing fourth in the 3,000-meter run as a freshman and seventh in the mile run as a sophomore. Her time of 4:43.56 in the mile is a school record.
Donaldson earned four All-Ivy League honors on the track this past season, including first team in the 3,000-meter run indoors. She was also second team in the 5,000-meter run indoors and outdoors and second team in the 3,000 outdoors.
The captain of the women's cross country team last fall, Donaldson took part in the NCAA Cross Country championships all four years and earned three All-America selections. She placed third in the event in 2006, which tied the highest finish ever for an Ivy Leaguer.
The Lincoln, Mass., native earned her fourth All-Region and All-Ivy League honors in cross country last fall, placing third at Heps and third at the Northeast Regional. She was the 2006 Ivy League Heps champion and had two of the three fastest times ever run at Heps.
The women's track & field/cross country ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America team includes 15 first team members, 16 second team members and 14 third team members. Recipients were selected from among those named first team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District earlier this month. Voting is done by members of College Sports Information Directors of America. Only student-athletes with at least sophomore standing and a 3.20 GPA are eligible for nomination by their school's sports information department.
