Bulldogs Celebrate 2010 Season
The 2010 Yale women’s volleyball team had many special moments: clinching a share of the Ivy League Championship, capturing nation-leading statistical marks, winning 10 straight Ivy matches, record-breaking performances and accomplishing numerous league honors to name a few. Recently, the Bulldogs met one more time to reflect on a season that ended with the team’s third Ivy League title in seven seasons at the squad’s annual awards banquet.

Appleman Announces Volleyball Class of 2015
Yale volleyball head coach Erin Appleman will welcome five freshmen to New Haven next fall. Gabby Bird-Vogel, Allie Frappier, Mollie Rogers, Maddie Rudnick and Dani Salka will form Yale’s Class of 2015.

10 Bulldogs Earn Fall Academic All-Ivy Honors
Ten Yale student-athletes have earned Fall Academic All-Ivy honors. Football players Patrick Witt and Jesse Reising, Jeff Perrella from the cross country team, soccer player Eric Meyer and lightweight rower William Zeng were honored on the men’s side. The women selected were soccer players Kate Macauley and Miyuki Hino, field hockey player Dinah Landshut, volleyball player Taylor Cramm and rower Stephanie Madner.

Dramatic Comeback Falls Short for Bulldogs
After dropping the first two sets, Yale won the next two before falling to Penn, 3-2 (25-18, 25-18, 23-25, 17-25, 15-8), in a one-match playoff to determine the Ivy League representative in the NCAA Tournament on Sunday afternoon at the John J. Lee Amphitheater. The Bulldogs, who won a share of the Ivy League Championship, finished their season with an 18-8 overall record and a 12-2 mark in conference play. Bridget Hearst, a first-team all-Ivy selection, slammed a team-best 18 kills for the Bulldogs, who won 10 in a row prior to today’s match to clinch a share of their third conference title in the last seven years.

Polan Named Ivy Rookie of the Year; Four Other Bulldogs Earn All-Ivy Recognition
There was no surprise when the 2010 Ivy League Volleyball Rookie of the Year was announced on Friday. Yale’s Kendall Polan, who was selected as Rookie of the Week five of 11 times this season, was a unanimous choice. It is the seventh time a Yale player has been named Rookie of the Year. In all, five Bulldogs earned All-Ivy recognition. Polan and Bridget Hearst were first team selections. Kelly Ozurovich and Haley Wessels were named to the second team, while Erica Reetz earned honorable mention recognition.

Polan Earns Fifth Ivy League Rookie Of Week Selection
Kendall Polan (Cardiff, Calif.), who combined for a team-best 55 assists and 41 digs in Yale’s weekend sweep of Columbia and Cornell, has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week for the fifth time this season. The two victories helped the Bulldogs finish the regular season with a 12-2 Ivy League record and a share of the Ivy title. Yale and Penn will play on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the John J. Lee Amphitheater. The winner gets the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Yale and Penn Play for NCAA Bid in New Haven on Sunday
After 14 regular season matches, it will take one more to decide which Ivy League team will represent the conference in the NCAA Tournament. Yale, which has won 10 straight and clinched a share of its third Ivy League title in the last seven years, will host Penn in a one-match playoff with an NCAA bid on the line at the John J. Lee Amphitheater this Sunday at 1 p.m. Both teams finished the regular season at 12-2 in Ivy play.

Yale Sweeps Cornell, Clinches a Share of the Ivy League Championship
As the season has progressed, so have the Bulldogs. And tonight, Yale made its biggest statement thus far in the 2010 season with a sweep of Cornell to clinch at least a tie of the Ivy League championship. The Bulldogs, who won a piece of their third Ivy League title in the last seven years, used a balanced offensive attack and stellar defense to capture their 10th win in a row and completed their regular season with a 12-2 Ivy mark and an 18-7 overall record. The scores of the sets were 25-20, 25-21 and 25-21.

Defense Lifts First-Place Bulldogs to Ninth Consecutive Win
Bridget Hearst slammed a match-high 14 kills, while Erica Reetz added 12 kills and 13 digs as the Bulldogs swept Columbia in New York City and extended their win streak to nine matches. With the win, Yale maintained its first-place position in the Ivy League with an 11-2 conference record and a 17-7 overall mark. Up next, Yale closes out its regular season schedule at Cornell on Saturday with a chance to clinch at least a tie of the top spot in the conference.

First-Place Yale Wraps Up Regular Season in New York This Weekend
Heading into the final weekend of the Ivy League regular season schedule, the first-place Bulldogs put their eight-match win streak on the line with matches at Columbia and Cornell. Yale begins play this weekend with a 16-7 overall record and not only leads the Ivy standings with a 10-2 mark, but it also leads the conference in kills per set, assists per set and hitting percentage. The Bulldogs, who defeated Columbia and Cornell earlier this season in New Haven, also lead the nation in digs per set.

Erica Reetz Named Ivy League Rookie Of Week
Yale’s domination of the Ivy League Volleyball Rookie of the Week award continues. Erica Reetz (Theinsville, Wis.), who helped the Bulldogs sweep Dartmouth and Harvard last weekend, was honored on Tuesday. It was the third time Reetz was selected and the seventh time a Yale player has been selected. Kendall Polan is a four-time winner.

Yale Cruises Past Harvard, Finishes 11-0 At Home This Season
The Bulldogs completed an undefeated home season and sustained their first-place position in the Ivy League with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-18) win over arch-rival Harvard at the John J. Lee Amphitheater on Saturday night. Erica Reetz notched 13 kills, hit .414 and tallied 11 digs for Yale, which honored senior team captain Kelly Ozurovich prior to the match. With the win, Yale improved to 16-7 overall and 10-2 in conference play.

Six different Bulldogs smashed at least four kills as Yale used a balanced attack in a 3-0 (25-8, 25-10, 25-17) sweep of Dartmouth at the John J. Lee Amphitheater on Friday night. Kendall Polan finished one kill short of a triple double for the Bulldogs, who won their seventh straight match and held their first-place position in the Ivy League with a 15-7 overall mark and a 9-2 record in league play. Yale hosts Harvard on Saturday at 6 p.m. The match marks the final regular season home match for the Bulldogs, who are now 10-0 on their home court this year.

First-Place Bulldogs Wrap Up Home Schedule Against Dartmouth and Harvard This Weekend
The Bulldogs aim to maintain their hold on first place in the Ivy League and complete an undefeated season at home this weekend with matches against Dartmouth and Harvard. Yale, winners of six in a row overall and all nine matches played at the John J. Polan Earns Fourth Ivy League Rookie Of Week Selection
For the fourth time this season and the second consecutive week Yale volleyball freshman Kendall Polan (Cardiff, Calif.) has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week. Polan averaged 8.33 assists, 2.33 kills and 5.0 digs per set as the Bulldogs swept past then league leaders Penn and Princeton, both in straight sets, to move into first place.

Bulldogs Make Statement, Sweep Penn and Take Over First
In a matter of 48 hours, the top of the Ivy League standings has a new look. Bridget Hearst put on a hitting display to help Yale defeat Penn, 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-22), at the John J. Lee Amphitheater on Saturday night. With the win, Yale completed a weekend sweep of the conference leaders, moved into first place in the Ivy League and extended its win streak to six matches. The Bulldogs improved to 14-7 overall and became the first team in the Ivy League to have eight wins with only two losses.

Kendall Polan had nine kills, 15 digs and 20 assists and the Bulldogs came from behind to take the first two sets in a sweep of Princeton on Friday night at the John J. Lee Amphitheater. With the victory, Yale extended its win streak to five and will host first-place Penn on Saturday at 6 p.m. The Bulldogs improved to 13-7 overall and 7-2 in conference play. The Tigers, who entered the night in a tie at the top of the Ivy League standings with Penn, fell to 12-8 and 6-2 in the conference.

The Bulldogs begin the week in third place in the Ivy standings and will host the two teams ahead of them – Penn and Princeton. This weekend, Yale has a chance to avenge its only two conference losses of the season, move up in the conference standings and extend its current four-match win streak. The Bulldogs (12-7 overall, 6-2 Ivy) take on the Princeton Friday night at 7, and host the defending conference champs Penn on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Yale rallied back from a 2-1 deficit to claim a 3-2 (17-25, 28-26, 22-25 25-13, 15-12) win at Dartmouth Saturday afternoon, helping the Bulldogs keep pace in the Ivy League standings. Bridget Hearst had a team-high 21 kills, hitting .410, and Erica Reetz added 18. Kelly Ozurovich had 23 digs. Now 6-2 in Ivy play, the Bulldogs are scheduled to host Penn and Princeton -- the top two teams in the conference -- next weekend.

Erica Reetz (Thiensville, Wis.), who posted double-doubles in a pair of Yale victories over the weekend, has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. Reetz, who is sixth in the league in kills, tallied 3.14 kills per set and 3.29 digs per set.

The Bulldogs put together one of their most complete performances of the season with a sweep of Cornell on Friday night at the John J. Lee Amphitheater. With scores of 25-13, 25-17, 25-13, the Bulldogs improved to 9-7 overall, 3-2 in the Ivy League and 6-0 at home this season. Yale posted a .336 hitting percentage for the match, played with intensity and trailed only briefly during the night.

Kelly Ozurovich added a team-high 29 digs for the Bulldogs, who fell to 8-6 overall and 2-1 in the Ivy League. Ozurovich Sets All-Time Digs Mark at Yale
Last Saturday, Kelly Ozurovich (Playa del Rey, Calif.) made history in Fullerton, Calif. The Yale womens volleyball senior captain became the all-time digs leader in program history. The historic moment came in Yales match against West Virginia at the Fullerton Classic. Ozurovich surpassed Anja Perlebach, who played at Yale from 2003-06.

The Bulldogs dropped matches to West Virginia and Cal State Fullerton on the final day of the Fullerton Classic. In the opener, the Bulldogs fell, 3-1, to the Mountaineers, and lost to the host Titans in on Saturday night in Fullerton, Calif. Freshman setter Kendall Polan continued her successful play and was named to the all-tournament team for the Bulldogs, who are now 5-4 on the season.

The Bulldogs dropped a close first set and never recovered in a 3-0 (27-25, 25-15, 25-21) loss to Liberty on Friday night in day one action at the Fullerton Classic in Fullerton, Calif. Erica Reetz, the reigning Ivy League Rookie of the Week, led Yale with 12 kills. The Bulldogs, now 5-2 on the season, return to action on Saturday to face West Virginia and Cal State Fullerton.

Prior to the start of the season, Yale volleyball coach Erin Appleman was confident she had brought in a strong freshman class. Only two weeks in, it appears Applemans assessment was on the money. For the second consecutive week a Yale player has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week. Erica Reetz (Thiensville, Ohio) was honored on Tuesday after posting a team-best 32 kills at the Long Island Invitational. Kendall Polan was recognized last week.

Freshman setter Kendall Polan (Cardiff, Calif.), who helped the Bulldogs to the Yale Invitational title, was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week. Polan earned all-tournament recognition after totaling 98 assists in three victories. She added 17 digs and three service aces.

The Yale volleyball team cruised to its second win of the season in its first of two games Saturday, sweeping the Quinnipiac Bobcats in three sets, 25-17, 25-7, 25-22. The Bulldogs were sparked by a 12-kill performance from junior Bridget Hearst and a strong defensive showing from captain Kelly Ozurovich (16 digs) en route to the victory.

Host Bulldogs Finish 3-0 at Yale Invitational, Hearst Named MVP
The box score may say the Bulldogs earned a quick, early-season, three-game sweep of the Rhode Island Rams in the final game of the 2010 Yale Invitational, but it sure had the feel of a postseason, five-set thriller. After battling back from eight down to take the first set 29-27, Yale gutted out a tough back-and-forth win in the second set, and then jumped out to an early lead in the third that would carry them to their third win of the season and second of the day.

Yale Athletics Announces Video Streaming Plans for Basketball, Football, Hockey and Volleyball
The Yale Athletics Department has partnered with Stretch Internet for the second straight season to provide live video streams of home events. The Bulldogs streaming schedule starts this Friday with the volleyball team taking on Stony Brook. This year will also mark the first time that all home football games, featuring the commentary of Ron Vaccaro 04 and Carm Cozza from News/Talk 960 WELI-AM, will be streamed. In addition to football and volleyball, home games for mens basketball, womens basketball, mens ice hockey and womens ice hockey will also be available. Additional sports will be added soon.

Bulldogs Host Yale Invitational to Open 2010 Season
The Yale womens volleyball team hopes history repeats itself this weekend. The Bulldogs open the 2010 season on Friday by hosting the Yale Invitational, an event they have swept each of the last three seasons. The Bulldogs host Stony Brook on Friday night at 7 p.m., and finish up on Saturday at home with matches against Quinnipiac (1 p.m.) and Rhode Island (7 p.m.).

David Dantes Named Assistant Volleyball Coach
David Dantes, who served as a volunteer assistant on Erin Applemans staff last year, has been promoted to full-time assistant coach. While serving as a volunteer, Dantes also was the first head coach for the Yale women's club volleyball team. In the Bulldogs first appearance at nationals, he led the team to the NCVF Division II National Championship. His club also captured its first league title by winning the Northeast Women's League (NWVCL) championship.

Yale Earns AVCA Team Academic Award
Over the last three years, the Yale volleyball team has compiled a very impressive 58-20 (.744) overall record. The Bulldogs have been just as successful in the classroom. On Tuesday, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced that Yale is among the recipients of the 2009-10 AVCA Team Academic Award. It is the third straight year the Bulldogs have been honored.

Yale Announces 2010 Volleyball Schedule
A trip to the West Coast for the Cal State Fullerton Tournament highlights the 2010 Yale volleyball schedule. In addition, the Bulldogs will play 11 matches in the friendly confines of the John J. Lee Amphitheater, where they have posted an impressive 31-5 record in the last three years.
