Reetz Named Ivy League Rookie Of The Week
Named To All-Tournament Team At Long Island Invitational
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Prior to the start of the season, Yale volleyball coach Erin Appleman was confident she had brought in a strong freshman class. Only two weeks in, it appears Appleman's assessment was on the money. For the second consecutive week a Yale player has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week. Erica Reetz (Thiensville, Ohio) was honored on Tuesday after posting a team-best 32 kills at the Long Island Invitational. Kendall Polan was recognized last week.
Reetz, who was named to the all-tournament team, added 19 digs,
three blocks and one service ace in the three matches. In
Yale's tournament opener against NJIT, Reetz pounded out a
team-best 13 kills and had just one error in 35 attempts for a .343
hitting percentage. She also added 10 digs in the 3-0 win. The
Bulldogs dropped a 3-1 decision to Georgetown in their second
match, but Reetz chipped in a solid nine kills and eight digs. In
the tournament finale, Reetz reached double figures again with 10
kills (.391 hitting percentage) as the Bulldogs swept host Long
Island in straight sets.
"Erica has handled the transition to college volleyball
really well," Appleman said. "I am pleased with her
work ethic and her potential to be a top outside hitter in the
conference."
The Bulldogs will play in the Cal State Fullerton Tournament this weekend in California. Yale meets Liberty on Friday and West Virginia and Fullerton on Saturday.
