Six Bulldogs return to their home state this weekend as Yale travels to Fullerton, Calif., to compete at the Fullerton Classic.  Yale, off to a 5-1 start, will face Liberty on Friday, then face West Virginia and host Cal-State Fullerton on Saturday.

Senior captain Kelly Ozurovich (Playa del Rey, Calif.), juniors Katie Cordell (Yorba Linda, Calif.), Taylor Cramm (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) and Bridget Hearst (Pacific Palisades, Calif.), sophomore Julia Cortopassi (Davis, Calif.) and freshman Kendall Polan (Cardiff, Calif.) will all be returning to the Golden State.

The Bulldogs depart for the West Coast on a successful note.   Yale took two of three matches last weekend at the Blackbird Invitational in Brooklyn, N.Y.  Yale defeated New Jersey Institute of Technology and Long Island, and lost to Georgetown.   Polan and fellow freshman Erica Reetz were named to the all-tournament team.

Reetz followed Polan as the second Yale team member to win Ivy League Rookie of the Week last Tuesday.  Reetz smashed a team-best 32 kills, and added 19 digs, three blocks and one service ace in three matches.

Yale can attribute its early season winning ways to several areas.  Through the first three weeks of the season, the Bulldogs lead the Ivy League in hitting percentage (.275), kills per set (14.3), assists per set (13.5) and blocks per set (2.3) through Sept. 15.

Liberty enters the weekend off to its second-best start in program history at 7-3.   The Flames, who will play at UC Irvine on Thursday prior to the Fullerton Classic, lead the Big South Conference in hitting percentage (.223), assists (11.92 per set), and kills (13.30 per set).

West Virginia (8-3) has won three in a row.  The Mountaineers, the second Big East team Yale will play this year, lead their conference in digs per set (18.44) and opponent's hitting percentage (.139).

Cal State Fullerton (6-3) has swept five of its last six matches after a victory at UNLV last Saturday.  The Titans, picked to finish fourth in the Big West this season, will also host Ivy League member Penn this weekend during the Classic.
