Yale Wins 25-11, 25-15, 25-11
NEW HAVEN, Conn – Freshman Mollie Rogers continued her impressive rookie campaign with 10 kills and 13 digs to help lead the Yale Bulldogs to 3-0 victory over the Quinnipiac Bobcats in day two of the Yale Classic at the John J. Lee Amphitheater on Saturday afternoon. The scores of the sets were 25-11, 25-15 and 25-11.
The Bulldogs, who improve to 5-3 with the win, hit .469 as a team and never trailed at any point of the match. As a team, Yale had 43-22 advantage in kills over the Bobcats and a 45-30 edge in digs.
Sophomore Kendall Polan dished out a match-high 33 assists and added six kills and seven digs, while freshman Allie Frappier chipped in with nine kills and freshman Maddie Rudnick contributed 12 digs for Yale.
"I thought we played real well today," Yale head coach Erin Appleman said. "We were able to play within ourselves and we played real well as a team."
The Bulldogs, who have yet to drop a game in their first two matches of the Yale Classic, used a 13-kill team effort in the opening game to cruise to 25-11 victory.
Yale jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the second set of the match after a kill by Frappier. The Bobcats (1-10) tried to claw their way back into the game and got to within three at 12-9. The Bulldogs responded by outscoring Quinnipiac 13-6 the rest of the way to capture a 25-15 win.
In the final game, senior captain Taylor Cramm had all three of her kills to pace the Bulldogs to a 14-point win.
The Bulldogs return to action on Saturday night at 7 p.m. to host Army in their final match of the 2011 Yale Classic.
