NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The defending Ivy League champion Yale volleyball team completed the spring season in impressive form, going 4-0 in the spring tournament at John J. Lee Amphitheater. The Bulldogs beat Fairfield, Bryant, Bridgeport and UConn.
Columbia and Southern Connecticut State also attended the tournament, a round-robin affair that afforded all teams four quality matches.
"We proved our hard work through the spring offseason paid off," team captain Haley Wessels, a rising senior, said. "It took a big team effort."
Associate Head Coach Kevin Laseau said rising sophomore Gabby Bird-Vogel played particularly well.
"What a great day for 'GBV,'" he said. "She was very strong at the net, and even clobbered some balls from the back row."
After a very competitive scrimmage at Boston College earlier in the year, Laseau said he and the team felt there had been a lot of progress between competitions.
"We played hard all day," Laseau said. "I wasn't sure if we'd have any rust on our game, but they did a nice job and showed solid composure."
With school ending, the team is now off for summer, while seniors Caitlin Cordell, Taylor Cramm and Bridget Hearst will graduate on May 21.
