Reetz Slams Season-High 10 Kills to Lead Yale Past Quakers

NEW HAVEN -- The Bulldogs used two game-changing runs to sieze the match and defeat Penn on Saturday afternoon.

Yale (11-5, 7-0 Ivy) put together a 12-0 run in the second set, then produced a 9-0 spurt in the third to win its eighth straight win and maintain its position atop the Ivy League standings.

Maddie Rudnick and Kendall Polan provided 16 digs each, and Erica Reetz blasted a season-high 10 kills for Yale in a sweep of the Quakers.

Kelly Johnson continued her all-around play for Yale. Johnson, the reigning Ivy League Rookie of the Week, contributed 13 assists, nine digs, eight assists and four total blocks.

Mollie Rogers added nine kills and nine digs for the Bulldogs, who needed an extra point in the first set today and a comeback in the second.

The first set featured 17 ties.  Down 22-21, Johnson tied the set for the Bulldogs with a kill.

After a Penn error on the next point, Alex Caldwell knotted the set at 23-23 for the Quakers. Reetz and Caldwell traded points before Jesse Ebner gave Yale the lead at 25-24 and a Penn error ended the set.

The Quakers (9-9, 4-3 Ivy) raced out to an 8-3 lead and held an 18-12 edge in the second. Yale scored the next 12 points to get to set point. During the run, Johnson tied the set at 18, then Reetz smashed consecutive points to give Yale a 20-18 lead.

After a setting error by Penn, Rudnick added an ace to push the lead to four and lead Yale to a set victory.

Rogers snapped a 15-all tie and started a game-changing run with a kill in the third set.  Reetz added two kills and Rudnick added another as Yale scored the next eight points to take control of the set.

The Bulldogs return to the court next Saturday to host Brown for a 5 p.m. start. The Bulldogs defeated the Bears, 3-1, on Sept. 22.
