Bulldogs Defeat Army; Take Two of Three at Pentagon

Yale Improves to 4-2 on the Season

Arlington, Va. - Yale finished strong in a 3-1 victory over Army at the Pentagon on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs improved to 4-2 overall and took two of three matches this weekend in a once-in-a-lifetime experience - playing inside the nation's iconic symbol of the military.

The scores of the match were 23-25, 25-14, 25-12 and 25-19.

"This is another positive step in our preseason" Yale head coach Erin Appleman said.  "We played great in the middle today and had solid ball control."

Brittani Steinberg helped Yale rebound from a first set loss and kickstarted a run of five straight points to take a 10-5 lead in the second.  Steinberg combined with McHaney Carter for block assists to increase Yale's lead to 15-9.

Kills from Kendall Polan, Carter, Kelly Johnson and Ebner, and another from Steinberg gave the Bulldogs' its largest lead at 19-11 and firm control of the set.

Yale never trailed in the third set, broke it open with an 11-5 run midway through the set to take a 19-11 lead. Johnson setup Ebner on the next point to give a commanding nine-point edge.

With the fourth set tied at 17, Yale pulled away with four straight points.  An Army error started the run, followed by a kill from Steinberg, an ace from Maddie Rudnick and a kill from Ebner.

Yale returns to action next Friday at a tournament hosted by Penn State.  The Bulldogs will face Eastern Kentucky, Albany and Penn State.
