Steinberg Earns Ivy League Honors

Named Co-Player, Co-Rookie Of Week

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Yale's domination of the Ivy League weekly awards continues. Freshman outside hitter Brittani Steinberg, who hit .509 in the Bulldogs' two wins last weekend, has been named the league's co-player and co-rookie of the week.

Steinberg had 11 kills with just two errors in a three-set sweep over Cornell on Friday night and followed that up with a 20-kill performance – the first by a Bulldog this season – in a four-set win over Columbia.

"Brittani was outstanding this weekend.  She was able to perform at a very high level," said Yale head coach Erin Appleman. "It's so nice to see our underclassmen finding success. The future is very bright for our program."

It is the first time this season that Steinberg has won player of the week honors and the second time she earned rookie of the week honors.

Yale has now had at least one honoree in six of the seven weeks this season.

Two other Bulldogs - Kendall Polan and Kelly Johnson - were named to the Honor Roll. Polan had 80 assists and 33 digs, and Johnson added 26 kills and 22 digs in the weekend sweep.

Yale (13-3, 7-0 Ivy) is back on the road this weekend, travelling to Brown for a 5 p.m. match. The Bulldogs have won 21 straight Ivy matches.
