National Champ Penn State, California Trip Hightlight Slate
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The four-time defending Ivy League champion Yale women's volleyball 2014 schedule includes dates against national champ Penn State, a trip to California and opens with a home match against 2013 Sweet 16-qualifier Minnesota on Sept. 5.
Yale's non-conference schedule includes teams from the Big Ten, Pac 12, Big 12, ACC and Big East.
The first of 11 home matches for Yale begins with Minnesota of the Big Ten. The teams will meet for the first time since the 2004 NCAA Tournament Second Round match played in New Haven.
"This schedule gives our student-athletes an opportunity to compete at a high-level against teams from some of the nation's best conferences," Yale head coach Erin Appleman said. "This will help us prepare for the always difficult Ivy League season."
The Bulldogs will also face Boston College and Albany (N.Y.) on Sept. 6 as part of the Yale Invitational.
Yale's non-conference slate continues at the Villanova Classic on Sept. 12-13. The Bulldogs will take on Kansas, another 2013 Sweet 16 team, in addition to Penn State and host Villanova.
The weekend of Sept. 19-20, Yale plays in California for the first time since 2012 at the Fullerton Classic. Matches include UCLA, Georgetown and host Cal State Fullerton.
Yale's first five conference matches will be on the road, beginning on Sept. 26 at Brown. The following weekend, Yale plays at Harvard and Dartmouth. On Oct. 10, the Bulldogs play at Penn and travel to Princeton the following day.
The Bulldogs look to extend their 32-match Ivy League home winning streak on Friday, Oct. 17 in the conference home opener against Cornell. After a match against Columbia the next day, Yale hosts Brown on Oct. 24.
On Oct. 31, the Bulldogs host Dartmouth with a match against Harvard the next day.
Matches at Columbia (Nov. 7) and Cornell (Nov. 8) close out the road portion of the Ivy slate. The next weekend, the Bulldogs close out the home conference schedule with matches against Princeton (Nov. 14) and Penn (Nov. 15).
Yale hosts Stony Brook on Nov. 25 to close out the regular season schedule.
