Assistant Coach Won Three National Titles at Springfield College
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Brendan McGourn, a three-time Division III national title winner, has joined the Yale women's volleyball coaching staff, head coach Erin Appleman announced today.
McGourn will join the Bulldogs as an assistant coach after winning three straight national championships at Springfield College. As an outside hitter, McGourn was on national title teams in 2012 and 2013, then won a third in a row as an assistant coach earlier this year.
"Brendan brings championship-level experience to our program and he will be a great addition to the staff," Appleman said.
Last fall, McGourn began his collegiate volleyball coaching career as an assistant coach for the Springfield College women's team. McGourn's primary responsibilities included video breakdown and scouting opponents.
"I'm very excited about joining such a prestigious university and successful program. Working with the defending four-time Ivy League Champions is an amazing opportunity," McGourn said.
The Southington, Conn., native also brings several years of club volleyball coaching experience. McGourn has worked with the Husky and Mizuno East Volleyball Clubs.
The Bulldogs finished last season 20-5 overall and return four 2013 All-Ivy selections. Yale opens the 2014 season at home against Minnesota on Sept. 5.
