Bulldogs Sweep Loyola-Maryland, Complete Winning Weekend

Steinberg and Feeley Named to All-Tournament Team

Storrs, Conn. -- The Bulldogs capped another winning weekend with a sweep of Loyola-Maryland on Saturday afternoon at the Dog Pound Challenge hosted by UConn.

The scores of the match were 25-19, 25-16 and 25-14. 

Brittani Steinberg and Claire Feeley were named to the all-tournament team and were standouts on Saturday.  

Steinberg and Feeley, both seniors, played with poise and experience and dominated at times in the match against Loyola. Steinberg, who continued her solid play, missed a double-double by two digs and ended up with a team-high 10 kills and added eight digs. 

Feeley was nearly flawless, striking for nine kills on one error.  She took 14 swings and hit .571.  

"I thought it we did a good job to finish up the weekend with a win," Yale head coach Erin Appleman said.  "Britt and Claire really did a good job of stepping up to lead the way."

Freshman Tristin Kott added eight kills, while classmate Franny Arnautou had 31 assists.  

Kate Swanson provided another good performance in the back row and posted a team-high 11 digs. 

Steinberg and Kott had four kills each in the opening set, however it was Feeley and Kaitlyn Gibbons who went back-to-back with kills to give Yale a 15-13 lead and the Bulldogs never trailed the rest of the set. 

In the second, Kott forced a Loyola timeout after she upped Yale's lead to 15-8.  Feeley notched a kill on the next point.  

The Bulldogs led by as many as nine and Arnautou assisted on all 10 kills in the frame. 

Yale (5-1) took over the third set early, scoring eight of the first 10 points.  Kott, Steinberg and Gray Malias, who joined Izzy Simqu on a block to give Yale a 7-1 lead. 

Next weekend the Bulldogs head to Texas to compete in the Rice Invitational.  Yale will face host Rice, Houston and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
