Steinberg and Arnautou Named to the All-Tournament Team

HOUSTON -- The Bulldogs ended their Texas road trip with two wins on Saturday.

Yale swept Houston, and later in the day defeated defending Southland Conference champ Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in four to give the Bulldogs a winning weekend.

Freshman Franny Arnautou was named to the all-tournament team, along with senior Brittani Steinberg. For Steinberg, it was her third all-tournament selection this season.

With the win tonight, the Bulldogs improved to 7-2 and are off to the program's best start since 2009.

"We played hard today and played at a level we needed to win these two matches today," Yale head coach Erin Appleman said.

In the win over Houston, the Bulldogs put on a hitting display with a season-best .355 hitting percentage.  The scores of the Houston match were 25-17, 25-13 and 25-21.

Megan Rasmussen, a Houston native, was key to the Bulldogs' offensive attack in the win over Houston.

Rasmussen had a match-high and career-best 13 kills and hit .387.  Rasmussen also added a career-high 11 digs.

Steinberg, Tristin Kott and Shreya Dixit had six kills apiece.  Dixit provided the Bulldogs a lift in the first set, with the Cougars cutting the Bulldogs' lead to 14-12.

After a kill from Rasmussen, Dixit provided consecutive points with a kill and a solo block to give Yale a 17-12 lead.  Yale grabbed the next point on a Cougars' error to force a Houston timeout.

The Bulldogs scored the first eight points of the second set and led 12-2.  Claire Feeley opened the set with a kill, then Steinberg served up seven straight points with two aces and kills from Kott, Feeley and two from Rasmussen.

With the score tied at nine to start the third set, Kott broke the tie, Steinberg delivered back to back aces and Rasmussen punctuated the rally with a kill to give Yale a 13-9 lead that it would not give up.

On the defensive end, Kate Swanson went for 20 digs, and later in the day had 21 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.  It was third time Swanson put up 20 or more digs in a three-set match this season.

Yale defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi by the scores of 25-17, 14-25, 25-16 and 25-23.

Arnautou had her most complete match of the season.  She dished out 39 assists and added six kills with a .417 hitting percentage, with two aces and solo blocks.

Steinberg provided her fourth double-double of the season with 12 kills and 15 digs, while Kott added a season-high 13 kills on 28 swings.  Kott, who hit .321, is averaging 2.09 kills per set through the first nine matches.
