Yale Falls to No.19 USC

The Bulldogs challenging pre-conference schedule continued on Saturday afternoon against No. 19 USC.

In a rematch of the 2011 NCAA Tournament, USC defeated Yale 3-0.

Kelley Wirth, the reigning Ivy League Player of the Week, led the Bulldogs with 11 kills and accounted for 33 of Yale's 95 swings.

Despite the 3-0 score, the Bulldogs kept the first set close.  Destiny Daniel and Tristin Kott combined on block assists to pull Yale within 10-9 in the opening set.

USC (7-2) couldn't pull away.  Kelsey Crawford provided a kill to cut the USC lead to 17-15.  Izzy Simqu and Wirth followed with kills to keep Yale within three.

In the second set, the Bulldogs fell behind 15- 9 and scored six of the next seven points to force a USC timeout.  Rebekah Nemeth started the run with a kill, then Wirth added two kills and Franny Arnautou added an ace.  USC scored three of the next four points to gain control of set.

USC used a 6-0 run to capture the third set.

Yale returns to action next week at Penn State to take on the host Nittany Lions, Wake Forest and Ohio.  Penn State entered the week ranked No. 3 in the nation, while Wake Forest is 7-2 overall.  Ohio is currently 6-4 with a win over Oklahoma.
