UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Bulldogs bounced back from two straight losses to sweep New Hampshire Saturday in the Penn State Classic finale 25-19, 25-18, and 25-17. Yale improved to 4-2 on the season, while New Hampshire dropped to 3-11.
Juniors Alexis Crusey and Cat Dailey led the way with 12 and 10 kills, respectively. The duo also contributed 10 and 13 digs, respectively. Senior captain Ally Mendenhall led the team with 36 assists. Freshman Bridget Hearst also added nine kills for Yale.
Senior Kristin Wilk and Laurel Johnson both added five kills in Yale's victory. Johnson was selected to the all-tournament team for her exceptional performance throughout the weekend. Sophomore libero Kelly Ozurovich had 11 digs in the match. The Bulldogs also had 9 services aces in the match including a team high three by Hearst.
The Bulldogs had dropped their first two matches of the tournament with losses to Penn State, the No. 1 team in the nation, and Saint Louis, but jumped back on track with the victory over New Hampshire. Yale will travel to Albany to play in the Albany Invitational next Friday and Saturday.
