Class of 2013 Earns High Honorable Mention from PrepVolleyball.com
June 3, 2009
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- PrepVolleyball.com, the Internet's first and only website dedicated to covering club and high school volleyball on a national level, has selected the Yale class of 2013 as a High Honorable Mention in its annual rankings of the nation's top recruiting classes, as determined by a panel of over 100 collegiate coaches. The Bulldogs are the highest-ranked Ivy League squad since the 2007 list. The Yale class of 2013 consists of five players: Anya Cekauskas, Kerry Clavadetscher, Julia Cortopassi, Caitlin Parmer and Haley Wessels.
"It's an honor to be recognized by PrepVolleyball.com," said Yale Head Coach Erin Appleman. "This incoming class should make immediate contributions to our team. I am excited to get them on the court next season."
The High Honorable Mention category features 25 Division I programs. Including the Bulldogs, 13 of those teams participated in the 2008 NCAA Volleyball Championships, with three (Florida, Michigan, Western Michigan) advancing to the Regional Semifinals. Yale's High Honorable Mention slots them alongside programs from 14 conferences, including the Atlantic Coast, Big East, Big Ten, Pacific-10, Southeastern and West Coast Conferences. Ivy League teams Columbia and Penn were placed in the Honorable Mention category.
"Seeing three Ivy teams on this list speaks volumes about the continued improvement of our league," said Appleman. "2009 should be another great year for Ivy League volleyball."
Two of the four Ivy League recruiting classes to receive High Honorable Mention status have been Yale squads. The Bulldogs' class of 2010 (Alexis Crusey, Laurel Johnson, Julia Mailander and Lydia Mailander) also earned the distinction in 2006.
In addition to the incoming class of 2013, the 2009 Bulldogs will return two first team All-Ivy players next season, unanimous 2008 Ivy League Player of the Year Cat Dailey and three-time first team selection Alexis Crusey. The 2009 schedule features non-conference matches against nationally-prominent teams American, Colorado and Georgetown prior to the Ivy League opener against Brown on Oct. 2.
