NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Fresh off of a pair of Ivy League sweeps at Harvard and Dartmouth, Yale freshman opposite Bridget Hearst has been named the Ivy League Rookie of the Week. Hearst is the first Bulldog to earn the honor in the 2008 season.
Hearst hit a scorching .472 for the weekend, totaling 20 kills and committed only three hitting errors on 36 swings. At Harvard on Friday night, Hearst had matched her season best of 10 kills on an errorless 16 swings for a .625 hitting percentage. The freshman also recorded seven digs and three blocks. Hearst hit .350 on Saturday at Dartmouth, registering 10 kills once again, this time on 20 swings with three errors. She filled out her stat sheet with three assists, two service aces, four digs and three blocks.
Additionally, junior Cat Dailey was named to Ivy League Weekly Honor Roll. The Newport Beach, Calif. native posted a team-best 4.50 kills per set and ranked second on Yale in digs with 4.33 en route to recording her ninth and 10th double-doubles of the 2008 season. She also led the team with five service aces and did not commit a service error in six sets of action. On Friday at Harvard, Dailey shared the team highs in both kills and digs with 10 and 11 respectively. Dailey rounded out her statline with two assists, two service aces and two blocks (one solo) in the sweep of the Crimson. At Dartmouth, Dailey recorded a match-best 17 kills. She added 15 digs, three service aces and a solo block.
Hearst, Dailey and the Bulldogs are back in action this weekend, as they close out their 2008 home schedule with a pair of matches. First, Columbia visits the John J. Lee Amphitheater on Friday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. Saturday is Senior Day, as a 4 p.m. match with Cornell wraps up the Bulldogs' home slate.
