Bulldogs to Compete in 3k Race
NEW HAVEN, Conn.—This Friday, Yale women's cross country will bring a team of underclassmen and middle distance runners to compete in the CCSU Mini Meet, hosted by Central Connecticut State University. As the last race before the championship season begins, the meet will offer seven Bulldogs one more opportunity to demonstrate the advances they have made throughout the season.
At 3,000 kilometers, the race will be shorter than those usually run by the Bulldogs—giving middle distance runners such as senior Sarah Barry, junior Alyssa LaGuardia and sophomores Anna-Sophie Harling and Shannon McDonnell an exciting chance to perform to the best of their specific skills.
Freshmen Emily Barnes, Rachel Jones and Emily Waligurski will complete the bunch. In their previous races this season, McDonnell and Waligurski have both finished well among groups of similar team members. Though Barry has only competed in one meet so far this season—the New England Championships—her performance there indicated that she too is able to contribute considerably to the team score.
Last year, with competitors including Harling and McDonnell, the Bulldogs overcame 13 teams to win the meet. They will look to finish among the meet's top squads again this year. Regional contenders New Hampshire and Stony Brook —both fairly close to Yale in the Northeast Regional rankings—will be among those racing on Friday.
The race will be held in New Britain, Conn., at Stanley Quarter Park. The women's race will begin at 4:00 p.m. and results will be posted on yalebulldogs.com when available.
