No. 27 Yale Heads to New England Champs
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's cross country team will send a contingent of athletes to the New England Championships in Boston this weekend. This meet brings together more than 30 teams from across the region for the first championship meet of the year. The meet will feature a 5k race on the Franklin Park Course, with both a Varsity and sub-Varsity division. The Sub Varsity race kicks off at 11:00 a.m. while the Varsity race will take place at 11:45 a.m.
"This is a great opportunity to test our fitness and build towards Heps," stated women's cross country coach Amy Gosztyla. With just three weeks until the Ivy League Champs in New York, the season is very swiftly accelerating.
The varsity division will feature senior Julia Borowski as well as juniors Emily Kaplan and Gabrielle Rinne. They will be joined by sophomores Jane Miller, Hannah Steffke and Rachel Suss, as well as first year Zoe Nuechterlein. These seven will look to build off each other within the large swath of runners. Borowski and Kaplan both have experience running in this meet and could be valuable in setting the team's pace.
Meanwhile, the Sub Varsity division will also feature a good mix of runners, with seniors Katrina Garry and Calleigh Higgins both making their return to a meet they competed in before. They will be joined by sophomore Lauren Chapey and first years Sarah Pillard and Megan Quimby.
Results of the meet will be posted as soon as they become available.
