NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Yale women's cross country will take a brief trip to New London on Friday to compete in its final meet of the regular season: the CCSU Mini Meet. It is almost a team tradition that the Bulldogs take on this race at Stanley Quarter Park. This meet brings together close to 300 athletes from more than 25 teams for the team's shortest distance of the season: the 3k.
The team will enter in both the varsity and JV races. However, the Bulldogs will likely elect to rest their top athletes in anticipation of championship season kicking off next week with the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships. For some of the athletes on the team, however, this will be their last meet of the cross country season. The team can only send 12 athletes to Heps, and with seven spots presumably filled with those who competed at the Nuttycombe Invite, only five of the athletes who compete this week will compete next week. The rest of the team will gear up towards the indoor track and field season in a little over a month. In any sense, this meet will serve as a tune-up for wherever their running careers lead next.
The team has done historically well at this meet particularly because a significant portion of the team will not get to compete again this season, making the meet particularly special. The Bulldogs have taken first in the varsity race at each of the last two meetings. Last season, the team took first in both varsity and JV divisions by wide margins.
The meet kicks off on Friday at 4:00 p.m. with the varsity women's race. This will be quickly followed by the JV race at 4:30 p.m. The results of this meet will be posted as soon as they become available.
