NEW HAVEN, Conn.—The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has recognized junior Andrea Masterson and first-year Sevanna Ghazarian as 2017 NCAA Division I Cross Country All-Region honorees. Both women received this honor for finishing within the top 25 at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships in Buffalo, New York.
Masterson has led the team throughout this season and fought her way to a 10th place finish at the regional meet, in a field of more than 250 runners. This run came after an impressive showing at the Heptagonal Championships, where Masterson placed second in a competitive field and earned first-team All-Ivy honors. Her remarkable finish at the Northeast Regional meet has secured her a spot at the NCAA National Championship, taking place this Saturday, November 18.
Ghazarian, only a first-year, has had a breakout season. Consistently finishing in the Bulldog's top three, Ghazarian has proven to be a competitive and reliable runner for the team. She placed 20th at the Regional meet and was the third fastest first-year in the race. This performance built off a strong showing at the Heptagonal Championships, where she placed 6th and earned first-team All-Ivy honors.
These honors and successes that the Bulldogs have had this season should provide confidence and momentum to Andrea Masterson, as she prepares to compete on the national stage this weekend. Her race will take place Saturday, Nov. 18, at 10:45 a.m. in Louisville, Ky.
