Christi Ireland enters her eighth year as a full-time assistant
coach for cross country and track and field. During the past seven
years she has played an integral role in the revitalization of the
Bulldog cross country and distance programs. With her knowledge and
enthusiasm the Bulldogs look to remain on the national scene. A
1993 graduate of Georgetown, Ireland was an eight-time NCAA
All-American (4 cross country and 4 track). She placed third in the
10,000m at NCAAs during her freshman and senior years. At the
Indoor NCAAs in the 5,000 she placed 5th her junior year and 4th as
a senior. In the fall of 1992 she was runner-up in the Big East
Cross Country Championships and in the spring of 1993 she was the
Penn Relays and Big East 10,000m champion, as well as the Outdoor
ECAC 3000 and 5000m champion. Her PRs include 4:44 for the mile,
16:04 for the 5k and 33:30 for the 10k. Prior to coming to Yale,
Ireland was the Fitness Director at Georgetown's Yates Fieldhouse.
Her husband, Dan, is the men's cross-country coach at Yale. They
have two children, Jacob (6 years old) and Alaina (3), who are both
big track fans.
