NEW HAVEN, Conn. – This weekend, the No. 1 Yale coed sailing team is sending three members to a Match Race clinic in Newport, R.I., to sharpen their skills before the New England Match Racing Championship next week. The Bulldogs will also compete in the Moody Trophy at the University of Rhode Island and the Southern Series regatta at home.

At the clinic, senior Ian Barrows will skipper a Yngling with senior Clara Robertson and junior Christopher Champa as crew. This weekend will be one of the first times they are practicing as a team, so they will be working to gain comfort with one another and synchronize their boat handling maneuvers.

Because the New England Championship will take place next weekend at the same location, the clinic will be an opportunity for them to get solid practice time at the championship venue. Next week's regatta serves as a qualifier for the Match Race Nationals, which will be held in sunny San Diego, Calif., late November.

Sailing just a thirty-minute ride away at the Moody Trophy will be sophomore skippers Nic Baird and Nick Hernandez with crews senior Chandler Gregoire, sophomore Kira Woods and freshman Graceann Nicolosi.

At Yale, skippers senior Charles Skoda and junior Patrick Buehler will sail with crews sophomore Claire Rossi de Leon and senior Elizabeth Tokarz, respectively.

Racing begins at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Follow results at http://scores.collegesailing.org/f16/.
