NEWPORT, R.I. – After the conclusion of racing at the national championship on Friday, nine Yale sailors were recognized with All-American awards. Senior Nic Baird took home the nation's top individual honor, the Marlow Ropes College Sailor of the Year.  Baird led the team to one of its best seasons ever as Yale's A division skipper. He placed top three in A division in every event he entered and led the team racing team to six regatta victories in seven events, including the national title.

In his acceptance speech, Baird thanked his teammates, coaches, parents, and particularly his crews, Kira Woods, Sonia Lingos-Utley, Graceann Nicolosi and Sam Tobin, who played a pivotal role in his success throughout the year.

"Nic sailed well all year," Bill Healy, associate head coach for Yale, commented. "It was great to see him get this award. He's the kind of guy who is on top of everything and leaves no stone unturned. He's a great student academically, but also of the sport."

Baird, sophomore Shawn Harvey, junior Louisa Nordstrom and junior Chrissie Klingler were named All-American Skippers while senior Nick Hernandez received an Honorable Mention All-American award.

Senior Kira Woods, junior Graceann Nicolosi, and sophomore Sonia Lingos-Utley were honored as All-American Crews and sophomore Claudia Loiacono was named an Honorable Mention All-American.
