  • Norway’s Gimle BBK Signs Victor

    Nick Victor ’16 will begin his professional basketball career in Norway. Gimle BBK of Norway’s BLNO League has signed Victor, an honorable mention All-Ivy selection last winter who helped the Bulldogs to an Ivy League title.

    The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) has announced the fourth annual Team Academic Excellence Awards and for the third straight year, the Bulldogs have been recognized for their success in the classroom.
  • Five Bulldogs Named To NABC Honors Court

    2015-16 was a memorable season on the court for the Bulldogs, who captured their second straight Ivy League title and advanced to the round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament. Yale was quite successful in the classroom as well. Five members of that championship team have been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court. Justin Sears ’16, Nick Victor ‘16 and rising seniors Anthony Dallier, Sam Downey and AJ Edwards were recognized for their hard work off the court.
  • Sears Earns Great Britain Roster Spot

    Justin Sears ’16 is one of 24 players named to Great Britain’s preliminary roster for this summer’s EuroBasket 2017 Qualification Games. Sixteen of the 24 will attend training camp in early August with those names released at a later date.
  • Sears Signs With German Professional Team

    Justin Sears ’16 will begin his professional basketball career in Germany. Sears, who graduated as Yale’s third all-time leading scorer with 1,700 points, has signed a contract with the Giessen 46ers in Germany’s BBL.
  • Jones Named To NABC Committee

    The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) has formed an ad hoc committee on NCAA men's basketball tournament selection, seeding and bracketing. One of the members will be James Jones, The Joel E. Smilow, Class of 1954 Head Coach of the Bulldogs.
  • Sears Named Mallory Award Winner

    Justin Sears, Yale’s first two-time men’s basketball All-American in more than 30 years, is the recipient of the 2016 William Neely Mallory Award, the most prestigious athletic award given to a senior male at Yale. The award was presented at today’s Class Day ceremonies.
  • Golf Outing Set For June 17

    The Yale Basketball Association’s annual Charlie Vachris ’61 Memorial Golf Outing is set for Friday, June 17 at the Course at Yale. Registration begins at 10 a.m. with an 11 a.m. shotgun start. There is a reception, dinner and awards ceremony following play.
  • City Of Stratford Honors Sherrod

    Brandon Sherrod had a special day in the town he went to high school in on May 3. Sherrod, a 2010 graduate of Stratford High School, which is 15 miles from New Haven, was the recipient of the 2016 Sterling Spirit Award during the Sterling House Celebrity Breakfast at the Trumbull Marriot.

  • Winter Academic All-Ivy Announced

    The Ivy League has released its list of student-athletes selected for 2015-16 Academic All-Ivy honors in its winter sports, and 10 Yale student-athletes were honored. The 80 overall men and women were starters or key reserves on an officially recognized varsity team with 3.0 or better cumulative grade point averages. Each institution nominated five men and five women from its eligible student-athletes.

    The 2015-16 college basketball season came to end on Monday night with Villanova’s thrilling, last-second victory over North Carolina. The final night brought some recognition Yale’s way as well as the Bulldogs’ upset of Baylor in the first round was one of the many highlights in One Shining Moment, the recap of the tournament traditionally played at the end of the television coverage of the championship game.

    The honors continue to come in for James Jones, The Joel E. Smilow, Class of 1954 Head Coach of the Yale men’s Basketball team. Jones was selected as the Advocates For Athletic Equity Division I Coach of the Year. The presentation was made to Jones at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston as part of the Final Four festivities.

    It didn’t take long for Justin Sears to get involved in the 2016 Reese’s Division I College All-Star game. Sears started and took the opening tap for the East squad, which ended up falling to the West 89-85 in front of 19,270 fans at NRG Stadium, the site of Saturday’s Final Four games.

The latest is the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District selections, and the Bulldogs are very well represented. Justin Sears was named to the District 13 first team for the third straight year, while Brandon Sherrod and Makai Mason both earned second team recognition. In addition, James Jones, The Joel E. Smilow, Class of 1954 Head Coach of the Bulldogs, was selected as the District 13 Coach of Year for the second straight year.

  • Valiant Comeback Falls Just Short Vs. Duke In NCAA Tournament

    Yale’s NCAA Tournament run has come to an end, but it certainly won’t be forgotten any time soon. Certainly not by the 11,679 fans, a large majority of which were cheering on the Bulldogs, on hand at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. After falling behind by as many as 27 points in the first half, Yale nearly staged the biggest comeback in the history of the tournament. In the end, though, fourth-seeded Duke hung on for a 71-64 victory over No. 12 Yale.
  • Sweet 16 Berth At Stake When Yale Meets Duke

    Yale made history on Thursday, winning the first NCAA Tournament game in the 121-year history of the program. Next up, the Bulldogs have an opportunity to become the first Ivy League team since Cornell in 2010 to advance to the Sweet 16 when they play Duke on Saturday at approximately 2:40 p.m. at the Dunkin Donuts Center. Ian Eagle, Chris Webber, Len Elmore and Evan Washburn will be back for the call on CBS.
  • Cinderella Strikes, Bulldogs Shock Baylor 79-75 In NCAA Tournament

    After waiting 54 years to play in an NCAA Tournament game, there was no reason for Yale to make a quick exit. Makai Mason scored a career-high 31 points as the No. 12 seed Bulldogs shocked fifth-seeded Baylor 79-75 before of predominantly pro Yale crowd of 11,656 at the Dunkin Donuts Center.

    Yale made the most of its final day of preparation for Thursday’s first round NCAA Tournament game against Baylor. The Bulldogs hit the Dunkin’ Donuts Center floor for an open practice in front of a number of fans, fulfilled some media obligations and soaked in the special atmosphere that is March Madness.
