  • Spring Academic All-Ivy Announced

    The Ivy League released its list of student-athletes selected for 2018-19 Academic All-Ivy honors in its spring sports, and 10 Bulldogs were selected. The 10 thrived in their sport and in the classroom, as starters or key reserves on an officially recognized varsity team with 3.0 or better cumulative grade point averages. Each Ivy institution nominated five men and five women from its eligible student-athletes.

    The Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges (EARC) announced the recipients of the league’s postseason awards. Steve Gladstone and Yale’s Varsity Eight were named Heavyweight Coach and Crew of the Year for the second-straight year.

    The Bulldogs have won five straight Eastern Sprints titles under Steve Gladstone, the Craig W. Johnson ’68 Head Coach of Yale Heavyweight Rowing. The ninth-year mentor of the Elis was named Ivy League Coach of the Year for the fourth time in five years following his squad’s victory at Lake Quinsigamond last Sunday.

The men’s and women’s races are set for Sunday on the Thames River in London. There will be three former Yale women’s rowers – Sophie Deans ‘18, Kate Horvat ‘18 and Lily Lindsay ‘18 - sitting in the Cambridge eight that faces its archrival over the grueling four-mile course. In addition, Gerard Kuenning ’14, who rowed for the heavyweights at Yale, will sit in the No. 4 seat of the Cambridge reserve men’s eight.
